A New Look for a Downtown Retail Space

The 50 West Broadway commercial space located in downtown Jackson has been many things over the years, from a dance club to a church. When the new tenants leased the space for a restaurant and retail business, they wanted to transform the space and mark a new era. From owner Tom Fay in a recent interview with DishingJH.com, “I’ve always thought that a golf simulator space in town would be a good business concept so that avid golfers, like myself, could have a place to go and hit golf balls all year long, since our golf seasons always felt short. . . [I] haven’t been to any golf simulator bars quite like this. I’d say we classed it up a bit to provide a country club feel that meets an English pub vibe. It’s a place I’d like to come and hang out to eat, drink and play some golf and watch some games. It’s an activity bar of some sort.”

The space had been empty for several years, and Fay jumped at the chance to lease the space once the building sold, from DishingJH.com “For the past year and a half, we’ve been working with architects, builders, interior designers and the Town of Jackson to get this off the ground. There are a ton of people to thank for having gotten us to where we are today, and hope to be in the next couple of years!”

GYDE was the firm Fay chose for the commercial design. We welcomed the opportunity to work with Fay on the Bunker. We have worked on a number of successful restaurant remodels over the years, and we were excited to design something new for the client and the community at-large.

As always, we started by listening to Fay and his team on the concept of the location. What were the spaces they were drawing inspiration from, and what did they want their customers to experience throughout the space? GYDE then created visual models of the space for the Bunker team’s consideration.

The final product is a space that is both inviting and unique in the Jackson bar and restaurant scene. The Bunker welcomed clients in May 2025, and their customers are already raving about the look and feel of the space.

“From the moment you walk down the stairs, you're amazed that this place even exists. It's a beautiful space! From its refined antique mirror bar, wrap around leather booths, cocktail lounge seating and two multi-sport simulators, this place will not disappoint.”
