Historic Preservation & Community Project - Project49
GYDE is pleased to announce work is underway at the Teslow grain elevator in Livingston, Montana. GYDE was selected by the Teslow’s new owners, Project49, after they received a grant from Montana Historic Preservation to restore this historic landmark for future generations. From the Project49 website, “[We’re] dedicated to creating a space with the Teslow that is useful for the entire community.”
Project49’s vision for Teslow is a multi-purpose community space with a maker space for creatives and entrepreneurs, and a gathering space for community and events.
“A major focus for the design is embodying both the values of Project49 and the best practices for historic preservation,” shared project lead and GYDE Principal Katherine Koriakin. Project49’s mission statement:
Project49 is dedicated to improving the lives of our neighbors, particularly youth, in Park County by providing unique spaces for self-expression, recreation, and learning. We provide an open environment where anyone can drop in and feel safe and engaged with numerous resources for creating art, learning new skills, and being active.
“Understanding the mission and values of our client, we wanted to make sure that our design for the revitalization of this space honored the history of the space in the community, while creating entry points that are welcoming and inviting.” The grant covers stabilizing the building’s foundation, shoring up the wooden shell, and preparing the building for modern structural upgrades to make it safe and usable.
The finished exteriors will put the Teslow’s on track to becoming a community space. Stay tuned for more!
