A Refuge for Hole Food Rescue

Designing the communities we want to be a part of is one of GYDE’s core values. We believe that great design can strengthen connection, and we’re always excited to partner with local nonprofit organizations that help our community thrive.

We partnered with Hole Food Rescue (HFR) for the renovation of their Forever Home at 650 West Elk Avenue in Jackson in 2023. What started as founder Ali Dunford’s passion project in 2013 has since grown into one of the region’s largest food rescue and pantry operations. HFR partners with all the nonprofit organizations fighting hunger and food insecurity in the Tetons.

The HFR team wanted their new location to reflect the organization’s values and light-hearted approach to food rescue (you have seen the banana costumes, right?). Our goal as architects was to help them maximize the value out of the new space. We focused on design solutions that were not only visually striking but also cost-effective and resourceful, incorporating found materials wherever possible to honor their values. We also wanted to express the playful brand colors throughout the space.

The HFR team is a hard-working organization that ensures every single dollar donated and every food item rescued is put to good use feeding our community. Our role was to create a space that reflects that care and dedication.

The result is a bright, welcoming space that helps HFR reduce food waste and provide nutrious meals for those in our community experiencing food insecurity. To learn more about Hole Food Rescue, visit https://www.holefoodrescue.org/.
